Former chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and senior YSRCP leader, Bhuma Karunakara Reddy, has criticized the TTD administration and the ruling NDA government for allegedly undermining the sanctity and traditions of the Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple. Speaking to reporters in Tirupati, Reddy condemned a statement made by a TTD official who suggested that Vedic chanting at the temple was unnecessary and should be discontinued.
Defense of Vedic Traditions
Describing the comments as disrespectful and arrogant, Reddy urged officials to recognize that the four Vedas are continuously recited at the temple, and TTD operates six Vedic schools to promote these ancient texts. He also mentioned that several religious leaders had raised concerns with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat regarding these issues, which led to a reprimand for TTD officials.
TTD's Response to Allegations
In response to Reddy's claims, TTD firmly denied all allegations, labeling them as baseless, politically motivated, and damaging to the institution's global reputation. An official statement from TTD indicated that the recitation schedule has been extended, with the divine mantra 'Om Namo Venkatesaya' resonating throughout the temple premises, including queues, the Annaprasadam hall, and walkways. Officials clarified that the changes were implemented solely to enhance transparency and streamline services for devotees.
